Overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean under the protective shade of a native Ohi’a forest, our family tends our coffee, avocado, and fruit trees. Living on a farm on the Big Island of Hawaii is filled with daily tasks.
There is coffee to pick, a garden to attend, and guests to pamper. Rather than a work schedule we have to follow, it is a lifestyle we have chosen. A lifestyle that weaves together work, play, food, family, and the land.

Transitional Organic Farming
Our transitional organic farm is run with earth-friendly practices. All the plants, animals, and tasks on the farm serve to sustain one another. Our resident chickens and goats not only provide eggs and milk for us to enjoy, but they also help to control the farm’s weed and pest population during their free-range days.

Transitional Organic Farming – Goals
Our goal is to create a more environmentally responsible, sustainable, and diverse farm. While we work toward organic certification, we use natural practices, building soil, using compost teas and cover crops. We do not use pesticides or herbicides. The weed whip and old fashioned pulling is how we tackle the constant growth of plant material.
Even without the government’s stamp of “certification,” we are committed to chemical-free farming and producing quality food while maintaining a wildlife habitat. Yes, farming this way is more labor-intensive, but it is farming for a sustainable future.
